FAQ

Alternative Assessment Evidence

What is it?

This process is reserved for learners who are classified as having a disability as per the Equality Act 2010, who are unable to complete any components of a qualification, so therefore regular special consideration cannot be applied.

How do centres apply for this?

To apply for this, EOs need to complete the JCQ Form, submit via AAO under ‘Other’ and ensure it is clear on their application that they are requesting Alternative Assessment Evidence. For detailed guidance on AAO, please see: Access Arrangements: Making Applications.

Centres should then email their AAO reference to reasonable.adjustments@pearson.com. This will then be reviewed by a team member and they will be emailed regarding next steps.

What is it?

If a student is unable to sit their exams for reasons that are not due to a disability or if a student was not able to sit the exams due to a disability but does not have sufficient alternative evidence to determine a grade via the Reasonable Adjustments process, the centre might request a Statement of Recognition which is a letter confirming the students predicted grades. Please note: that this is not the equivalent of issuing a grade, and it is not a certificate.

We can offer a Statement of Recognition, which is an official letter stating the student's predicted grades. This is not the equivalent of issuing a grade, but it may be used when applying to educational institutions or future employers who may consider it alongside other evidence of achievement (such as transcripts or completing an entrance exam). A Statement of Recognition does not prevent students from re-sitting the exams in future if that is an option that the student and their parents are considering.

How do centres apply for this?

If the student would like to proceed with the request for the Statement of Recognition, please provide the following information:

  • Learner name
  • Candidate number
  • Subject codes (including tiers and options)
  • Predicted grades for all subjects (this must include all units for BTEC qualifications, inclusive of optional units)

A brief explanation as to why the learner did not sit exams.

Please email all the above details to reasonable.adjustments@pearson.com.

Once this information is confirmed, the Statement will be produced and will be issued during the results period as a PDF which will be sent to you directly via email. When you receive this, please ensure you check the document to confirm all the details are correct.

If you need a Statement of Recognition earlier than this time, please email reasonable.adjustments@pearson.com and we can issue one for you
