FAQ

What is Quality Assurance?

Quality Assurance is a set of processes and procedures we have in place to ensure that National Standards are maintained and that students are issued valid, accurate and fair grades based on their performance.

What is included in Quality Assurance models?

The BTEC Annual Quality Assurance model is a three-stage process which includes:

Stage 1 – Setting Up for Success
Completion of the Annual Quality Declaration, the identification of Lead Internal Verifiers and standardisation of the delivery teams.
Stage 2 – Centre Level Support
The Centre Check in activity (CCI) and the release of Programme Control Measures.
Stage 3 – Enabling Certification
Standards Verification and Quality Assurance Checks for Eligibility and Claims.

Please refer to the BTEC Centre Guide to Quality Assurance for further guidance.

Some BTEC qualifications fall under the WBL QA model, and the requirements are slightly different:

There is still a requirement to complete the Annual Quality Declaration (AQD) and to identify a Lead Internal Verifier.

Centres are not required to access centre standardisation materials (CSMs) via the subject's qualification webpage or Edexcel Online (EOL), however, it is a requirement that teams (Lead IVs, IVs and assessors) standardise internally to ensure they understand how to mark to national standards. Past standardisation materials can be located on the subject webpages.

A Lead Standards Verifier is allocated annually to centres and sector Standards Verification is required to release a cohort for certification.

Please refer to the Work-Based Learning Centre Guide to Quality Assurance. This can be located within the Useful documents section on the Quality Assurance for Work-based Learning (WBL) webpage.
