How will I know if Remote Invigilation is suitable for me ?
Your school, college or learning provider will discuss what is required to use the Remote Invigilation service with you and you should review all of the learner guidance available to you to ensure that your equipment meets the requirements and that you have a suitable location where you can take your assessment without any interruption.

What do I need to take my assessment using Remote Invigilation?
The equipment you will need is a computer with a Windows operating system, working webcam, speakers and microphone.

You will also need to be able to access a Chrome browser and be able to share your screen. A smart device such as a smart phone or tablet is also required.

You will need a quiet space that is well lit and where you will not be interrupted for the duration of your assessment. You can find more detailed information about the requirements in the learner technical guide and learner check list documents.

How will I know when my assessment is booked?
Your school, college or learning provider will inform you of the date and time that your test has been booked for.

How will I access my assessment?
Once your school, college or learning provider have booked your assessment with Pearson you will receive an email from "exams@proctorexam.com" at least 48 hours before the date that your assessment is booked. You must follow the instructions that are provided in that email and pass all the checks.

When you have passed all the checks you will receive a second email from the same email address which will contain a unique link which will take you to your Remote Invigilation session. You can access your assessment on that link up to 1 hour before the time your assessment is scheduled for and up to 3 hours after.

If you are not able to pass all the checks in the first email you must inform your school, college or learning provider as soon as possible.

What if I don't receive the email to access my assessment?
You should receive your first email at least 48 hours before your test date. If you have not received your email please check your Junk Mail. If you are using your work email address please check with your employer that the email from "exams@proctorexam.com" is not being quarantined by your organisations email filters.

If you still have not received the email please contact your school, college or learning provider as soon as possible.

If I am taking my assessment on my work computer is there anything I need to ask my employer?
Yes, you will need to speak to your employer and ask that the websites btecng.pearson.com and pearson-btec.proctorexam.com be added to whitelists so that they are made accessible and are not being blocked.

You should also ensure that the email address exams@proctorexam.com is not blocked if you are using your work email address.

What if I have more than one assessment booked?
If you have more than one assessment booked you will receive an email for each and will be required to complete the checks for each assessment.

Who do I inform if I need to change the date of my assessment?
You should inform your school, college or learning provider as soon as you become aware that you are not going to be able to attend your assessment.

During Assessment

Are Chrome add-ons/plug-ins allowed to be working when I am taking my assessment?
No, you must ensure that any Chrome add-ons/plug-ins are switched off before starting your assessment. This is particularly important if you use any grammar assistance add-ons/plug-ins in the browser, these must be switched off and not used during the assessment. If they are seen when we review your session it may lead to your result being void.

The only Chrome plug-in permitted and which should be working during the exam is the ProctorExam plug-in that is installed from the first email received.

Do I need to install anything?
You will need to have a Google Chrome browser on your computer and will be instructed to add a Chrome Plug-in on the first email that you receive. You will also need to have a smart device which you can install an App on which will be used during your Remote Invigilation assessment.

You will not need to install the Pearson test player, you will be able to access this via a link once you have completed all of the Remote Invigilation set up.

What type of computer can I use?
You will need a computer with a Windows operating system. Macs, tablets or other computers that do not have a Windows operating system are not suitable for the test to run on successfully.

What type of smart device do I need for the App?
A smart device with the ability to add the required App – Android 5.1 or higher and iOS (Apple) 10.0 or higher with a working camera. Note: Huawei P30, Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016), Google Pixel 3 and newer are not compatible with the App.

Can I take a break away from my computer during my assessment?
No, you must be on camera at your computer for the duration of your assessment. If you leave the computer your test may be void. If you are taking more than one assessment you can take a break away from your computer once you have finished one and before you start the next.

Can I use a physical calculator for my maths assessment?
No, you must use the calculator that is available in the Pearson test player, physical calculator are not permitted when tests are being taken using the Remote Invigilation service.

Do I have to login in at the exact time my assessment is booked for?
You can access your assessment 1 hour before and up to 3 hours after the time your school, college or learning provider has scheduled it for.

Can I wear headphones or ear pods?
Headphones and ear pods are not permitted when you are taking your assessment using the Remote Invigilation service.

As part of the checks you will complete you must ensure that your computer microphone and speakers work. You will also be asked to show your ears to camera when preparing to take your assessment to show that you are not using any headphones.

If you wear a hearing device please inform your school, college or learning provider so that they can make us aware when booking your assessment.

Can I have food and drink when taking my assessment?
You are permitted to have a drink as long as it is in a clear glass or bottle with no labels.

As with any form of delivery you should not eat any food whilst taking your assessment.

Can someone else be in the room when I take my assessment?
No, you must be alone for the duration of your assessment.

You must ensure that you have a quiet place where you will not be interrupted when taking your assessment. This can be in your home or your workplace but should not be in a public place such as a coffee shop or library.

How do I get support if I have questions during my assessment?
There is a chat function available to you when you are completing the checks and throughout the time you are taking your assessment.

You can ask questions if you are having technical issues however answers will not be provided if you ask questions about the content of your assessment.

You should ask your school, college or learning provider any questions you might have about the format, style or learning required ahead of your assessment, you can also ask them to set you up with practice assessments before you are entered for the live assessment.

What form of ID can I use?
Valid ID can be - passport, driving license, photographic work ID or photographic college ID.

You will be asked to show your ID to your webcam during the setup for your Remote Invigilation session, you must ensure that the image you take of your ID clearly shows your photograph and name.

Where can I take my assessment?
You can take your assessment in a quiet place where you will not be interrupted when taking your assessment. This can be in your home or your workplace but should not be in a public place such as a coffee shop or library.

Post Assessment

Who will have access of the recordings?
The recordings of your Remote Invigilation session will be reviewed by a Pearson invigilator, they will ensure that the assessment was taken in the correct environment and that there was no compromises of any of the requirements.
If there are any concerns about any part of the recording your school, college or training provider will be contacted by Pearson so that we can investigate further.

How long is the recording stored for?
The recordings will be stored securely until all reviews have been completed and your results have been provided to your school, college or training provider.
