This article explains the requirements needed for each component of the Pearson Onscreen Platform.

In most cases, the software pre-requisites are installed automatically as part of the installation procedure but in rare cases they will need to be installed separately. N.B. This software only runs on Windows machines. It will not run on Apple Mac, Linux, Chromebook etc.

 

Q: If tests are taken in online mode, does the software still need to be installed?
A: Yes, the tests will still need the Test Player or Pearson Offline Platform installed in order to run

Q: Will the software run on a Mac/Chromebook etc?
A: The Pearson Onscreen Platform software is only available on Windows machines

Test Player Requirements

  • The Test Player needs to meet the requirements listed on page 5 of this guide to run properly:

    Minimum System Requirements:

    Software Pre-requisites:

    • Pentium III with 900Mhz processor
    • 1GB RAM memory
    • 100MB storage capacity
    • Minimum 1024 x 768 screen resolution
    • 10/100 Mbps network interface adapter (for local mode only)
    • Access to Internet (ADSL 1MB minimum) via reliable ISP
    • Windows 7 (or above)
    • Important: Firewall ports that need to be open are 52221 & 52222
    • Microsoft .Net 4.5 (Full or Extended version) or above
    • Windows Media Player 11 (or above)
 
  • It is especially important that this is installed: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5+ (this is installed by default on Windows 10 machines but might not be present on Windows 7 or Windows 8)
 

Administrator and Invigilator Dashboard Requirements

  • The Administrator and Invigilator Dashboards need to meet the requirements listed on page 5 of this guide to run properly:

    Minimum System Requirements:

    Software Pre-requisites:

    • Pentium III with 900Mhz processor
    • 2GB RAM memory
    • 10/100 Mbps network interface adapter (for local mode only)
    • Printer (local or network) – optional
    • Windows 7 (or above)
    • Important: Firewall ports that need to be open are 52221, 52222, 443
    • Microsoft .Net 4.5 (Full or Extended version) or above
 

Exam Centre Service Requirements

    • The Exam Centre Service needs to meet the requirements listed on page 5 of this guide to run properly:

      Minimum System Requirements:

      Software Pre-requisites:

      • Pentium III with 900Mhz processor
      • Access to Internet (ADSL 1Mb minimum) via reliable ISP 10/100 Mbps network interface adapter
      • Disk space according to centre size and needs, a shared drive visible for all network users, with a minimum 1GB of space to be used for installation, test and response packages. This space will vary depending on the number of learners in the centre, and the number and size of tests.
      • Windows 7 (or above)
      • Important: Firewall ports that need to be open:
        • Internally - 52221, 52222
        • Externally - 443
      • Microsoft .Net 4.5 (Full or Extended version) or above
    • N.B. Tethered mobile/tablet connections using 3G/4G/5G networks are not supported.
     

    POP Online/Offline

    Pearson Offline Platform Requirements

    • The Pearson Offline Platform is used for Offline and Online tests with the Pearson Assessor Dashboard (PAD). The technical requirements can be found on page 3 of this guide:

      Minimum System Requirements:

      Software Pre-requisites:

      • Windows 7 SP1 or greater
      • Dual core processor
      • Minimum 10GB Hard disk space
      • RAM 512mb
      • Network Adapter installed
      • Screen Resolution of 1024x768 or more
      • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 or higher
      • Full administration rights during installation
      • IIS Express 8.0
      • Port 8080 is open & available
      • Windows Media Player 11 or higher
