The following applies to any written timetabled examinations or controlled/practical assessments:

Requests for modified papers for UK GCSE and GCE (AS/A Level) should be made on Access Arrangements Online (AAO). Modified paper requests for all other qualifications need to be applied for via Pearson Access Arrangements Online (PAAO), using Edexcel Online, except for Functional Skills. For instructions on how to request a Functional Skills modified paper, please refer to our FAQs.

Please see Access Arrangements: Making Applications for additional information on using AAO and PAAO.

For more information on available modifications, support with ordering modified papers, use of coloured paper, troubleshooting and general information, please refer to our Modified Papers FAQs.

International Centres:

If you are an International centre, please make all modified paper applications via PAAO. Please see PAAO: Pearson Access Arrangements User Guide Index for detailed guidance.
For more information and video guides on PAAO, please see our support page here

For further information on modified formats, please see our support page here.

Coloured paper

Requests for PDF copies of Standard A4 Papers for printing on coloured paper or enlarging onto A3 can be accessed in the following ways:

Secure Download Service (SDS)
If you have sufficient access, you can self-serve 60 minutes prior to the exam start time for exam papers. This is for General Qualifications only and is accessed via Edexcel Online.

BTEC Assessment download page
If you have sufficient access, you can self-serve 60 minutes prior to the exam start time for exam papers. This is for BTEC papers only. Please see the BTEC assessment website page.

Secure File Transfer (SFT)
You will need to request these through customer services in advance. Please create a new case, and a Customer Services Specialist will arrange for our Modified Formats team to send you a copy of the exam paper electronically.

These will be sent to you approximately 60 minutes prior to the exam start time. You will receive a notification through your email once the electronic copy is available in your SFT account. This will enable you to print the exam on the specific-coloured paper you require.
Please include the following details in your case:

  • Exam date
  • Morning or afternoon?
  • Entry/unit code
  • Candidate number and name

Please note: Interactive PDFs should only be ordered for use with read-and-write software and should not be ordered to be printed on coloured paper.

GCSE History papers can be found under the new code 1HI0.

The Modified Formats Team are unable to supply PDF copies of Standard Papers.

Please see below the different types of Access Arrangements and whether they need to be applied for.
