Updated ICE, v1.7
Instructions for the Conduct of the Examination (ICE) - Summer 2024.
As it is necessary to release confidential material to centre staff on the day of the examination, it is essential that staff involved in the delivery of this assessment read the latest version of the ICE for the conduct of the examination before releasing any material to candidates. This is to ensure that the security of the examination is not inadvertently breached.
Role specific checklists
Role specific checklists have been developed for your:
These were created to further support your centre in delivering the assessment for each role that is involved in ensuring this assessment is a success.
Making use of these checklists will inform every responsible member of staff what key activities they are to complete ahead of, on and after exam day.
Creation of secure user areas & folder set up
Ahead of exam day it is important that your IT Technicians have created secure user areas for all candidates taking the assessment. Candidates should only be able to access their own secure user area and not anyone else's. Each candidate will need separate unique login details to access this special account.
These should have: | These should contain 2 folders: |
Read, write & run privileges | STUDENT CODING- where the exam coding files and PLS will be placed on the day of the exam |
At least 50mB storage space | COMPLETED CODING - where the candidate saves their work |
No access to the internet | |
IT support & contingency measures
It is important that your centre is prepared to handle any technical issues that could arise on exam day.
Contingency measures that should be in place ahead of the exam include ensuring:
- IT support is booked and on-hand throughout the exam session so that technical help is always available
- your IT Technician(s) is familiar with how to place original coding files into a candidate's secure user area during the exam if necessary
- several 'spare' computers are available should a candidate need to work from another machine if needed
- invigilators are aware of what to do should there be a power cut or system outage
- the process is understood for special considerations should a power cut not be restored for the whole day.

Learner Work Transfer
Submitting candidate work will be done using Learner Work Transfer:
This portal enables centres to upload and submit the zip file for each candidate and an examiner will then receive the candidate's work and be able to begin marking it.
The window for submitting candidate work is:
Tuesday 21st May 2024 after the exam through to Thursday 23rd May 2024 at 12pm (BST).
We will also have an updated 'Digital Guidance Submission' document available on our website in May, ahead of the high stakes assessment, which relates directly to the Computer Science qualification.
It is important that, upon uploading worth through Learner Work Transfer, that a QA check is carried out on the uploads that have been taken place to ensure all work for your cohort is accounted for ahead of being sent to an examiner.
