We are aware that there may be potential risk of emergency or adverse weather in your vicinity which may affect the delivery of examination. This may be because your exam centre is unable to open to conduct the exams, or you are unable to reach the exam venue because of disruption to transport due to adverse weather. In these instances, the safety of students and staff are paramount, and all exam centres and candidates should follow local advice and restrictions in place designed to ensure your safety. Centres are advised to use the joint contingency plan as guidance.

Timetabled examinations

It is important to note that rescheduling or postponing Pearson Edexcel timetabled examinations is not an option due to the consequences this would have across the examination system. To do so would create the likelihood that the content of an exam was no longer confidential, and that students sitting the exam at a later date or time would have been able to obtain some advance knowledge of the exam content. Therefore, the integrity of the question papers could be compromised and some students would gain an unfair advantage compared to other students. Rescheduling or postponing Pearson Edexcel timetabled examinations may lead to a malpractice investigation which could potentially result in sanctions being imposed on centre staff and/or the centre as a whole.

Special consideration

If students have been unable to take an exam due to circumstances beyond their control, your exam centre can apply to Pearson to have special consideration in relation to the Pearson Edexcel exam that was missed.

The most convenient way to make applications for ‘Absent’ candidates is to use special consideration online tool which can be accessed via Edexcel Online. For group requests please complete JCQ Form 10 which must be completed and signed along with the list of affected candidates and sent to uk.special.requirements@pearson.com.

For all our qualifications, we follow the JCQ guidelines.

Further information and guidance are available in the joint contingency plan issued by Ofqual and preparing for disruption to examinations issued by JCQ.
