FAQ

What is a BTEC Centre Handbook?

We recommend centres have a BTEC Centre Handbook that is compiled by the Quality Nominee. This is good practice to develop consistency across all BTEC provision and will be key to success. It also supports Pearson representatives to undertake quality assurance monitoring activities.

The BTEC Centre Handbook should contain centre-wide quality assurance documentation that is applicable to all BTEC programmes, and the content will vary according to the size and type of centre.
Suggested BTEC Centre Handbook content:
  • Approval applications / confirmation
  • Centre Organisational Chart / Job role descriptions
  • BTEC Centre Policies (see the following support article: BTEC Centre Policies)
  • Assessment & IV templates:
    • Assessment Plan
    • Internal Verification Plan
    • IV of assignment brief
    • IV of assessment decisions
  • Tracking sheets:
    • At grade criteria
    • Unit achievement
  • Year plan
  • Annual review cycle

We recommend this is stored electronically and saved on an intranet system so easily available to all staff.

For further guidance, please refer to the BTEC Centre Guide to Policies and Procedures for vocational qualifications this can be located on our Quality Assurance webpage, and the Centre Quality Templates that can be found on the Quality Assurance Resources webpage.

What is a BTEC Programme File?

Lead Internal Verifiers are responsible for creating and maintaining a BTEC Programme File. This is a day-to-day management file which contains a variety of documentation about the different cohorts studying a programme. This file will contain much of the information required for your quality assurance, Centre Check-in Activity (if applicable) and Standards Verification sampling activities.

Managing vocational quality

For additional help and support for Quality Nominees and BTEC delivery teams, we have created dedicated quality assurance webpages that can be accessed via the Home of Quality Assurance. These webpages provide easy access to quality assurance guides, videos and resources, FAQs, regular updates, training events, live chat with an expert and much more.

We recommend Quality Nominees and BTEC staff join our Quality Nominees Group, here you can ask questions directly to the Vocational Quality Assurance Management team, browse posts/updates and share ideas and good practice with colleagues.
