BTEC Results days

Please see Results Dates: Edexcel Online & EDI File Release Day/Times to confirm when results are available for each assessment series.

If you want to receive overall BTEC results via EDI this summer, then you need to send us your BTEC EDI results request file by 31 May.

What is a BTEC EDI results request file?

It's a file, sometimes known as a 7B file, that you send to us so we can create and send your EDI BTEC results file to you on results day. The EDI file is available in 2 different file formats: JCQ and EDIFACT.

If you need the JCQ format, download a BTEC EDI results request file from Edexcel Online and then send it to us via A2C before 31 May 2025. This is the more common format.

If you need the EDIFACT format, please email eprocessing@pearson.com

If you're not sure which EDI file format you need, check with your management information system (MIS) provider

Please send your BTEC EDI results request files to us as soon as possible before the 31 May deadline. This gives us plenty of time to identify and solve any problems before the summer break.

All EDI results files are sent on the morning of the corresponding results day.

Once you've sent us your BTEC EDI results request file, you still need to make a full award claim for each learner on Edexcel Online.

Think of the results request file as a message from your MIS to ask our systems to send it the information you want on results day; it doesn’t interact with or affect your learners’ records and doesn’t submit claims for them.

If you send us a results request file with your learners’ details but don't make full award claims for those learners, you won’t receive overall results for them on results day. The results file you receive will instead show each learner's grade as a Q (pending) grade.

Select one of the following options:

How to get a BTEC EDI results request file:

  • Log in to Edexcel Online, choose BTEC & Functional Skills, then select EDI Basedata from the left-hand menu options.
  • Change the Basedata Subtype drop-down to Results Entry 7B, make sure the Approval Year is 2024/25 and the Programme drop-down is All Approved Programmes.
  • Click Submit and JCQ basedata will be emailed to you.
  • You can then import this basedata into your centres MIS and create your own BTEC EDI results request file for the learners you need results for, which you can then send to us via A2C.
  • The above steps are also included in the interactive guide below

Changes to learner information

Learner details in the BTEC EDI results request file must match the current learner registration details exactly or their results won’t come through properly on results day. If a learner has been transferred between programmes (for example, from a Diploma to a Certificate) after your original results request file has been submitted, please send us a new file with the updated details.

The BTEC EDI results request file is for overall award results only. You'll receive results for externally assessed units via EDI file if the original entries were also made via EDI.

Please Note: In preparation for August results days, a test file is sent to all centres receiving their results via A2C/EDI. These centres will receive an EDI file test via A2C with the naming convention 'R*centre number*14.X99'. This file will be sent to your centre's A2C inbox by 30 of June.

To check the file has been received, please go to your A2C inbox and press the "send/receive" button. If the file does not appear in your A2C inbox, please check your logs. If you still cannot see the file, please contact us.
